Dr. Latonya Washington 2016 Tougaloo College 40 Under 40 Honoree
LaTonya B. Washington, MD, MBA, CPE, FAAP is a native of Jackson, MS. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Tougaloo College and her Doctorate of Medicine from University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Her Postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics was completed in 2008 at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where she served as Chief Resident in her final year. She obtained a Masters of Business Administration from Auburn University in 2014.
She is board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics and actively practices both specialties. She has practiced medicine as a hospitalist as well as outpatient adult and pediatric medicine in Virginia, Arkansas, and Tennessee. She is the former Chief Medical Officer at Regional One Health Extended Care Hospital in Memphis, TN. She currently serves as a pediatric hospitalist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as the supervising physician at Graham Primary Healthcare, as a physician investigator at Bayer Consumer Research Center, and as the Associate Director of Hospital Medicine at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN.
She also serves as a physician advisor providing peer and utilization review services as well as a medical expert witness providing expert opinion and testimony in cases involving general internal medicine and pediatrics. She has participated in medical mission work in the Philippines. She serves as a charter member of the LeBonheur Children’s Hospital Associate Board of Directors, an organization promoting the health of children in the Mid-South through education, advocacy, philanthropy, and volunteerism and also participates in the Health Issues and Chronic Absenteeism Steering Committee through the People First Partnership an organization working in conjunction with the Memphis chapter of the NAACP and Latino Memphis to identify and remedy health disparities in children of color affecting school attendance.
